Sublime: Mood Music for the soul

Sublime: Get ready to nourish your mind, body, and spirit

Let’s start off with some trivia. What kind of dog hung around Sublime as their honorary mascot? If you guessed a Dalmatian, then you’re right! But that’s too easy; don’t give yourself any credit just yet. What was the dog’s name? Let’s see now, it was Lou of course. Lou Dog, Louie Nowell, or King Louie himself was rescued from a shelter as a pup by the band’s own Brad Nowell. Yeah, go Sublime! Rescuing dogs, isn’t that good Juju, or is it Karma? It’s probably both. Anyways, it’s all good. You’ll see (and hear) Lou all the time in their songs and videos; his fur flowing freely in the cool ocean breeze. That’s a dog’s life for you, the good life.

So, what exactly is Sublime anyways? A fusion of Ska, Reggae, punk, surf rock and hip-hop here. You know what that means: we’re about 40oz to Freedom, so just hang loose until we get there. That’s right, stick out your pinky and thumb. Now, put the other fingers down. Then, proceed to wave your hand around. That’s a nice gesture.  Pretend you have a surfboard in the other hand. Remember to use words like gnarly, dope, and rad. If you’re headed out to Long Beach, California where Sublime originated from, you’ll need the hand gesture. Is it summertime yet? Is that even a question? It’s always summertime ( on the inside at least).

Doin Time, Wrong Way, and What I got are listed in their greatest hits and that’s what Sublime is after all, the greatest. Now that we have put the album on, do you smell that ocean sand smell? Oh, right. We’re at the beach, and this is perfect weather for the next ocean swell, so watch the tide, stay in stride and always abide... I’m just playing with my words a bit. Spoken-word, rock, and rap were the experimental products of Sublime’s album, Robbin’ The Hood. An album that is clever, catchy, and slightly crazy. We like that. We like you. Oh, and we’re feeling so Sublime right now.

Sublime: Get the Funk on

I hope you’re feeling fresh. That’s the feeling you get when you groove along to some Sublime. We’re talking about bass-heavy, reggae rhythms here. Yep, and this is killer fusion! A sound that was pretty much unheard of until Sublime came around and revolutionized it for us. Thanks, Sublime, you’re pretty influential!

You know what’s cool? Going multiplatinum. Yeah, that’s cool. But if that’s cool then what’s Sublime? Going multiplatinum a whopping six times, now that’s saying something!

But hey, just how do you rock-out to Ska anyways? How do you groove to Sublime? What are you supposed to do with your arms and legs? Turns out, there is no right way. Just get pumped.  Jump around a bit. It’s not about looks anyways; you just need to feel good about yourself. It’s all about getting in the right mood. I don’t know, listen to Smoke Two Joints or something. Have you heard? It’s Sublime.

Sublime: simple sweetness

So, you’ve spent all your money? Not getting noticed by the hottie next door? Life’s hard knocks got you down in the dumps? Well, don’t worry about it! Be happy instead. Seriously, go put a band-aid on whatever size life-wound you have and just forget about it.

It’s all good. Life is good. Life is sublime.

Try this: I’m all out of dimes, but I’ll still spit you some rhymes. That’s what Sublime is all about: living simply and enjoying the good.
